Mineola HS pair qualifies for all-state band
Mineola High School musicians Ellery D’Angelo and Megan Holt qualified for the Association of Texas Small School Bands all-state band at area auditions Saturday in Tyler. This is Mineola’s first time having multiple all-state musicians in the same year.
A junior at MHS, D’Angelo auditioned on B-flat clarinet to make state for her first time, while senior tenor trombonist Holt will return for a second year in a row.
They will travel to San Antonio to audition for chair placement on Feb. 12 then join the best young musicians in Texas for two intense days of practice for a concert on Feb. 15 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.
Along with D’Angelo and Holt, MHS was represented at area by Makayla Skinner and Esme Estrada on bass clarinet, Trinity Kolo on contra-bass clarinet, tenor saxophonist Riley Woodard, french horn player Alana Galaz and on euphonium Lanie Yager. Quitman sent Angelina Rodriguez on bass clarinet and percussionist Tristan Cheek, both QHS sophomores.
These students had previously qualified for area by placing in the top spots at region auditions.
